The two-storey outbuilding in the courtyard of a block in Kollwitzkiez, Berlin, dates back to the Gründerzeit (the “founders period, mid- to late 1800s). In 1995 it was placed under protection as part of a

historically listed ensemble.

The building, formerly used as a cider mill and brewery, has now been converted into a private living space.

The

Traces of Time

were also preserved in the interior. Tiled walls were cleaned, others were re-plastered or painted.

A new raised roof with skylights and a glazed atrium on the upper floor bring

light and air

into the 7-meter-deep, singly-aligned structure.

The cozy reading area upstairs is naturally lit by the

Atrium.
